Hi, I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I am keen to talk to other people with similar problems to me - in the last 2 years or so, I have experienced cyclical mood problems - periods of depression. At the moment I am thankfully stable. My problems began a long time ago when I had trouble coming to terms with an exam failure. It led to a complete breakdown which has taken many years to recover from. It has not been without its compensations though - I think it has made me more aware of things like stress, self-care and empathy towards others.

Hey, Robert, I am sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, brother.
Believe me when I say that, so long as you continue to take your meds and regularly, [about 3 monthly] have the salt levels checked, there is no reason you cannot continue your career.
UNLESS
YOU feel that the stresses of the Navy life somehow contributes to your illness.
MAKE SURE that you find out what you can about your illness. Balance has three superb resources now available to help with this.
I am always here if you want someone to chat to.
I first EXPERIENCED manic behaviour whilst serving in the army. [about 1978] I was not DIAGNOSED until 1995. I have lived happily ? with this illness since then, and lead a reasonably well balanced and full life.
So can you!!!!
Regards
